Google Sheets offers several formatting tools to make your spreadsheets more readable and visually appealing. One useful feature is the ability to rotate text within your cells. Rotating your texts can help improve the layout, especially when working with long headers or when you want to save space.
This article walks you through the process of rotating text in Google Sheets, using built-in tools that let you customize the direction and angle of your text to suit your needs.
Rotating Text in Google Sheets
Open your Google Sheets document where you want to rotate text. Select the cells with the text you want to rotate. You can do this by clicking and dragging your cursor over the desired range. Click on the Text rotation icon in the toolbar. This icon typically looks like the letter “A” with a small arrow beside it. A menu will appear, displaying six different rotation options:
None
Rotate up
Rotate down
Stack vertically
Rotate up 45°
Rotate down 45°
Click on the rotation style you want to use. Your selected rotation will be applied to all the highlighted cells. Your text is now rotated according to the selected style. You can repeat these steps for any other cells where you want to apply text rotation.
