How to Change the Font of Your Text in Google Docs

Changing the appearance of text is an essential skill when working in Google Docs. Whether you’re preparing a document for a professional project, a school assignment, or simply want to make your work visually appealing, adjusting the font allows you to personalize your content and highlight important sections.

This guide will show you step-by-step how to change the font of your text in Google Docs. You’ll also learn how to adjust the weight of your text to make it bolder or lighter, giving you greater control over your document’s look and feel.

Selecting Your Text

  • Welcome back to another tutorial video.

  • Open your document in Google Docs and locate the text you’d like to update.

  • Use your cursor to highlight the desired text. This makes sure only the selected sections will be updated with your new font settings.

Changing the Font Family

  • Go to the top toolbar and find the Font dropdown menu. {marker_3}

  • Click Font to reveal the list of all available font options.

  • Scroll through the list. You’ll see fonts such as Arial, Times New Roman, Roboto, and many others.

  • Click the name of the font you’d like to apply to your selected text. The change will be visible immediately in your document.

Customizing Font Weight

  • If you want to make your text appear bolder or lighter, return your attention to the toolbar.

  • With your text still selected, click Bold to increase its weight and make it stand out.

  • If you prefer regular text, click Bold again to toggle it off, returning your text to normal weight.

  • For lighter text, you can simply avoid applying the bold effect; Google Docs doesn’t have dedicated “light” weight, but picking a thinner font can achieve a similar result.

Viewing Your Changes

  • Once you have applied your font and weight settings, review the document to ensure it looks as expected.

  • There you go—it’s that easy!

  • Remember: you can repeat these steps for any other text in your document that you want to customize. Experiment with different fonts and weights to find the ideal style for your work.
